Bihar professor returns Rs 24 lakh salary due to absence of students in his class
Refusing his entire salary of Rs 23.8 lakh for two years and nine months, Lallan said there’s no point in taking the salary if there’s no one to teach.

The college professor, Lallan Kumar, works as an assistant professor of Hindi at Nitishwar College in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. Refusing his entire salary of Rs 23.8 lakh for two years and nine months, Lallan said there’s no point in taking the salary if there’s no one to teach. He also complained that it will affect his academic qualities, if he is not shifted to a different college. However, the college authorities has refused Lallan's offer saying that there is no login behind his reasoning. Lallan Kumar is an alumnus of Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University.
Describing his grief, Lallan Kumar said after joining as an assistant professor, he didn't get the postgraduate classes for teaching. He also said that students never showed up in his classes. He complained that he has not got transfer despite requests and said that if his demands are not met, he will start a sit-in protest.
Reacting on Lallan Kumar's request, principal of Nitishwar College Manoj Kumar said that in the last two years, the classes were unable to operate on a full-fledged basis due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He also said if Lallan Kumar wanted a transfer, he could have directly raised a request with him, instead of raising this strange demand.
Taking note of the incident, RK Thakur, vice-chancellor of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bihar University, said that he is looking into the matter of zero attendance by students, as claimed by Lallan Kumar.
