Bhai Dooj Date 2022: When to celebrate - October 26 or 27

Bhai Dooj is one of the most celebrated Indian festivals. It is a traditional Hindu festival observed by Indians worldwide. This festival celebrates the love and relationship between sisters and brothers. Bhai Dooj is known by several other names, including Bhaiya Dooj, Bhai Phonta, Bhatra Dwitiya, Bhau Beej, Bhathru Dwithiya and Bhai Dwitiya, among others.

In one of Bhai Dooj's ceremonies, sisters put a Tikka on the forehead of their brothers while praying for their health and happiness. Usually, Bhai Dooj is celebrated two days after the Deepawali festival. The legends say that Lord Krishna visited his sister, Subhadra, on this day after slaying Narakasura; Subhadra welcomed Lord Krishna by putting a Tikka on his forehead. Since that day, this day has been celebrated as Bhai Dooj.

The festival of Bhai Dooj falls on the second day of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Kartik. However, the Bhai Dooj festival date is not clear this year, as the second day of Kartik Shukla Paksha falls on two dates - October 26 and 27. The Bhai Dooj Festival this year will begin at 02:43 pm on October 26 and will continue till 12:45 pm the next day. In many places, Bhai Dooj festivities will start on October 27 as per the Udaya date.
