Bhadra Kaal: Don't tie a rakhi during this period!

However, even on this most auspicious of days it is important to not perform these customs at a certain period during the day. Known as bhadra kaal, this time of the day is not ideal for any auspicious activity, including celebrating Raksha Bandhan.

Named after Bhadra - a mythical figure and the sister of Shanidev - this time of the day has been historically unfortunate, with the story going that Surpanaka - sister to Raavan - celebrated Raksha Bandhan during this inauspicious time, leading to the demon king's defeat at the hands of Ram.
