Bengaluru: A 25-year-old woman, desperate to resolve her relationship issues and other challenges, fell victim to an online astrologer scam, losing a significant sum of Rs 8.2 lakh in the process.

Identified as Rahil (name changed), she recently had a breakup and sought the help of an astrologer named Ahmed, hoping to reunite with her ex-boyfriend and address various problems in her life.

Rahil's ordeal began on December 9 when she contacted Ahmed and shared her concerns. Exploiting her vulnerability, Ahmed claimed that someone had subjected her and her loved ones to black magic, instilling fear in her. Subsequently, Rahil followed Ahmed's instructions, sending photos of herself, friends, and family members. She complied with his demands, making an initial payment of Rs 501 through a digital payment application.

Ahmed, along with associates Abdul and Liyakhatulla, escalated the scam, asserting that he could perform black magic to ensure her boyfriend and parents never opposed her relationship. The fraudulent astrologer demanded Rs 2.4 lakh for this service, and Rahil paid the sum in cash near New BEL Road on December 22. Additional payments of Rs 1.7 lakh were coerced from her two days later in Hebbal.

As Ahmed persistently demanded more money, Rahil grew suspicious and refused further payments. In response, Ahmed resorted to threats, including the potential disclosure of photos with her boyfriend to her parents.

Despite Rahil's suspicions, she succumbed to the pressure and made multiple transactions totaling Rs 4.1 lakh through a digital payment application until January 10.

When Rahil's parents discovered the financial loss, they encouraged her to file a complaint with Jalahalli police.

It was revealed that she had transferred the funds to an account in the name of Liyakhatulla.

"Ahmed claimed Rahil forced him to perform black magic and will return her money. But his mobile number is switched off now," police officer said.
