Bengaluru is likely to experience thunderstorms, rain and gusty winds over October 16 and 17, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), with moderate rainfall expected at most places across Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts on Friday. The forecast also points to heavy rain and thunderstorms in parts of Karnataka over the next two days, with winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph in several districts. Residents of Bengaluru and surrounding areas should remain alert to changing weather conditions as rain activity continues across South Interior Karnataka.

Bengaluru weather today, October 16

The IMD forecast indicates moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph at most places in Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru Rural districts on Friday, October 16.

The outlook for South Interior Karnataka also points to significant rain activity elsewhere in the region. Heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely at one or two places in Chamarajanagara, Mysuru and Kodagu districts. Heavy rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds, are also expected at one or two places in Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Mandya and Hassan districts.


Light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds is forecast at most places in Ballari, Chitradurga, Davanagere and Vijayanagara districts.

Bengaluru weather tomorrow, October 17

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue across Bengaluru and neighbouring districts on Saturday, October 17.

According to the IMD, heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Mandya, Hassan and Ramanagara districts.

Heavy to very heavy rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds is forecast at one or two places in Chamarajanagara, Mysuru and Kodagu districts.

Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds is likely at most places in Ballari, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara districts.

Karnataka weather: IMD observations and weather systems

In its summary of observations recorded at 8.30 am IST, the IMD reported rainfall at many places in Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka, and at one or two places in North Interior Karnataka.

Based on real-time data, maximum temperatures across the state ranged from 29.6°C to 37°C, while minimum temperatures were between 19.9°C and 26.6°C.

The IMD also reported several atmospheric systems influencing weather conditions over southern India:

• An upper-air cyclonic circulation lies over Tamil Nadu between 3.1 km and 4.5 km above mean sea level.
• An upper-air cyclonic circulation over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and its neighbourhood persists and extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
• A trough extending from the south Tamil Nadu coast to the Northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast now runs from the cyclonic circulation over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh to the Northwest Bay of Bengal, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
• An upper-air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep lies over northern parts of Lakshadweep and the neighbourhood, extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
