A three-year-old girl survived a 12-foot fall at a garment store complex in Bengaluru after she accidentally slipped while climbing a railing outside the shop, with the incident caught on CCTV.

The toddler suffered a head injury in the fall and is currently undergoing treatment at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for extra caution around children near staircases, balconies and open spaces where a moment of inattention can lead to a dangerous situation.

What happened when the child fell from the railing?

According to CCTV footage from the garment complex, dated July 13, the toddler was seen near the railing outside a clothing store around 6.50 pm.

The footage shows the child climbing onto the railing while no adult appears to be immediately beside her. After reaching a certain height, she seems to lose her balance and falls from the upper level of the complex.

The fall, which appears to be from the first floor area, left the child injured.

Soon after the incident, the sound of the fall alerted people inside the shop and nearby areas. The child's parents and others rushed towards the spot, while a crowd gathered around the complex after hearing the commotion.

The child was immediately taken for medical attention and later admitted to Aster CMI Hospital, where she is receiving treatment.

Why children need closer supervision near open spaces

The incident has brought attention to the risks children face around railings, staircases, balconies and open windows, especially in crowded public places.

Young children often explore their surroundings without understanding the dangers of height or unstable surfaces. A brief moment without supervision can sometimes result in serious accidents.

Parents and caregivers are advised to keep children within close reach in areas with open edges, elevated platforms or stairways to prevent such incidents.
