Bengaluru techie gets Rs 61 lakh repair estimate for Mercedes-Benz after crash

Techie shared images after the crash showing the damages to the Mercedes.
A Bengaluru-based software engineer was in for a costly surprise after a highway accident left his Mercedes-Benz damaged, with an authorised service centre estimating the repair bill at Rs 61 lakh. The amount was roughly equal to what he had originally paid for the luxury car.

Adam Rizk, a software engineer at Amazon, shared details of the accident and the subsequent repair estimate in a social media post. He said his car hydroplaned while he was driving in heavy rain in Bengaluru, crossed a highway divider and landed in the opposite lane.

Techie escapes major injuries after highway crash

Despite the severity of the accident, Rizk said he escaped without any major injuries. Recounting the incident, he explained that crashing through the divider and ending up on the wrong side of the highway could have resulted in far worse consequences.

Rizk later took the damaged Mercedes-Benz to an authorised service centre to assess the cost of repairs. While he expected the bill to be steep, the estimate of Rs 61 lakh was far beyond what he had anticipated.

Sharing his reaction online, he wrote that the service centre had quoted Rs 61 lakh to repair the vehicle, adding that he had expected the work to be expensive but not to that extent.

Insurance payout instead of repairs

Responding to a question about whether his insurance would cover the repair costs, Rizk said the vehicle had been declared a total loss. He added that, instead of paying for the repairs, the insurer would provide a cash payout.

The incident highlights the potentially steep costs associated with repairing luxury vehicles after major accidents, even when the occupants escape serious injuries.
