Bengaluru rain today: Bangalore to see showers, thunderstorms amid intense heat, netizens say 'perfect time for chai pakoda'

Bengaluru, experiencing sweltering heat for the past few days, received light pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday evening with more rainfall predicted for today, Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds in 15 districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru. The rain forecast is till April 30, 2026.

The IMD has predicted light to moderate rain in Bengaluru for today. Some areas might also receive heavy showers. The pre-monsoon activity will likely continue for the next few days. The city will likely be under cloud cover for most of the day.

Bengaluru weather today rain

Bengaluru will receive rain and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening from April 28 till May 1, the IMD has forecast. While several parts of Karnataka received pre-monsoon showers earlier this month, Bengaluru remained largely dry.

The IMD's forecast says that isolated areas of Bengaluru are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours. Gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also likely during this period.

Hope for Bangalore residents

The IMD's rain forecast for Bengaluru has brought some hope for the residents as the city has been experiencing above-normal temperatures and uncomfortable daytime heat. The daytime temperatures are expected to remain around 35 to 36 degrees Celsius even during the rain spell, while minimum temperatures are likely to stay close to 23 degrees Celsius.

"Thermodynamic conditions are highly favorable for rainfall in Bengaluru today. However, the only factor that could prevent it is the dynamics, which show significant vertical wind shear and changing direction with height. This prevents systems from moving in a coherent path," read a post from Bengaluru rain alert account on X.

As soon as the news of Bengaluru rain started trending on Google and X, netizens expressed their joy. "Finally some rain in Bengaluru �� Thank you Indra Devta," wrote a user.

"If it does not rain over Bengaluru on 30 April, I will leave Twitter," another one joked. "Finally, good weather in Bengaluru! Looks like rain is coming and we’ll get a break from this crazy heat. Perfect excuse to grab some chai and pakodas," commented another.

"Thank God, it's finally raining in Bengaluru," wrote another. "rained in Bengaluru.. and a good solid rain lasting 15-20 mins.. what a relief," another X user wrote.
