In Bengaluru, a bus shelter worth Rs 10 lakh has been stolen, sending authorities into a tizzy.

According to a report in the Times of India, Bengaluru Police is now investigating the perplexing disappearance of the newly constructed BMTC bus shelter on Cunningham Road, worth Rs 10 lakh.

The High Grounds police received a complaint about the theft, which occurred between August 21 and August 28. However, a complaint in this regard was lodged on September 30, over a month after the incident. The missing shelter, situated less than a kilometer away from Vidhana Soudha and behind the office of the city police commissioner, has raised concerns among the public.

Police officials are currently gathering CCTV footage from the vicinity to aid in their investigation. The delay in filing the complaint has posed a challenge to the ongoing probe. An official stated, "The complaint indicates that the shelter was stolen during that period. One team has been tasked with examining the CCTV footage from the area. Once we identify individuals dismantling the bus shelter in the footage, our investigation will gain momentum."

Sources told TOI that the delay in filing the complaint was due to the agency's inquiries with traffic police, BBMP, and other relevant authorities to determine if any of them had removed the shelter. Following BBMP's directives, the agency filed a complaint under IPC Section 379 (punishment for theft).

The disappearance of a bus shelter in such a busy area, especially one located behind the office of the police commissioner, has left many residents puzzled. Authorities are diligently working to resolve this unusual case and apprehend those responsible. Stay tuned for updates as the investigation progresses.

Earlier this year, a similar heist made headlines all over India in which thieves stole a 90-foot-long, 6,000-kg-strong iron bridge, which served as a passage for Adani Electricity’s extensive electric cables, from Malad West (Mumbai).
