Bengaluru’s crumbling infrastructure has once again come under scrutiny, this time with former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai directly calling out Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge. Expressing his frustration, Pai questioned Kharge’s contributions over the past two years, criticising the government’s failure to ensure basic amenities like clean roads, proper footpaths, and an improved quality of life for Bengaluru residents.

The debate erupted after Priyank Kharge took to X (formerly Twitter) to showcase Bengaluru’s success as a global tech hub. However, Pai responded with sharp criticism, highlighting that while the city’s reputation in the tech industry is well-known, its everyday infrastructure remains in shambles. “Minister @PriyankKharge. We know all this, but tell us - what have you done as our Minister to improve our lives? You have not even ensured the city is clean with no potholes and good footpaths! This is not rocket science but regular maintenance work,” Pai remarked.

He further urged Kharge to collaborate with Bengaluru Development Minister DK Shivakumar to tackle the city’s deteriorating infrastructure. “Pl talk to the Minister. @DKShivakumar to give us at least a clean walkable city! Is this too much to ask? Our lives have become more miserable over the last 2 years,” he added, pressing for immediate action to address urban neglect.

Pai, known for his outspoken stance on government inefficiencies, has been a consistent critic of the administration’s handling of Bengaluru’s infrastructure crisis. Previously, he had confronted DK Shivakumar after the minister famously claimed that even God could not fix Bengaluru’s traffic woes in an instant. Pai countered that despite being in power for two years, the government had failed to complete even a single major project within the promised timeline.

Demanding accountability, Pai also proposed straightforward and practical solutions to improve Bengaluru’s liveability. He emphasised the need for cleaner streets, repaired footpaths, and a more robust public transport system, including the addition of 5,000 new electric buses. His remarks reflect the growing frustration among Bengaluru’s citizens, who are demanding that their city be more than just a global IT hub—but also a functional, well-maintained urban space.
