Bengaluru murder update: How a jilted woman planned a chilling ‘role play’ trap, burned her boyfriend alive, and captured the final moments

A 27-year-old woman in Bengaluru allegedly tied up her boyfriend, doused him in inflammable liquid and set him on fire at her house. The woman, who lured her boyfriend with the promise of a “western-style proposal”, has now been arrested for murdering her boyfriend after tying him up, blindfolding him and setting him ablaze. The woman also allegedly recorded his final moments on her mobile, investigators have found, according to a Times of India report.

Bengaluru BDSM murder

According to police, the accused Prema and the victim Kiran worked together at a mobile service provider store in Rajajinagar and were in a relationship for nearly two years. But the relationship reportedly turned sour after Kiran turned down her marriage proposal with officials suspecting this might have been the main reason that triggered the murder.

How did the murder unfold?

Police said Prema called Kiran at her residence in northwest Bengaluru. A native of Chikkanayakanahalli in Tumakuru district, Kiran went to her house in Anjananagar under Byadarahalli police station limits after her family members had left for work. Kiran had initially planned to travel to Nelamangala but instead went to Prema to meet her.

The police said Prerna planned the act in advance. Investigators said Prema offered him a “surprise” and what she described as “a good time”. Prema then allegedly blindfolded Kiran and tied him to a chair under the pretext of staging a surprise proposal, reassuring him when he questioned the restraints. Investigators said she then removed his clothes, distracted him, and poured petrol and kerosene and set him on fire. Unable to free himself, Kiran died on the spot.

Neighbours, alerted by his screams and thick smoke billowing from the house, informed authorities immediately and fire and emergency services rushed to the scene.

How was the woman caught?

At first, police treated the case of Bengaluru murder as a suspected suicide based on Prema's claim. But there were inconsistencies in her statements and subsequent findings pointed to foul play. During the probe, officers found evidence suggesting the inflammable liquid had been procured in advance, indicating that she had planned the act in advance. They also seized the woman’s phone, which allegedly contains a recording of the victim’s final moments.

During questioning, Prema initially claimed she was in the bathroom when she heard a loud noise. However, police said she changed her statements multiple times and later reportedly confessed.

“Prima facie, it appears the accused, under the guise of a romantic interlude, restrained the victim and set him on fire. Further investigation is on,” a senior officer told TOI.
