200 Biryanis Delivered Per Minute on Eid, Orders during Navratri grew 25% as compared to last Navratri in April 2025: Swiggy unveils Food Ordering trends for March
Swiggy reported a 25% increase in orders compared to Navratri 2025. The platform recorded a peak of 4,800 orders at 8:06 pm on March 22.
During Navratri, traditional fasting dishes dominated orders:
- Sabudana Khichdi led with around 222 orders per hour
- Sabudana Vada followed with 156 orders per hour
- Vrat Thali saw nearly 120 orders every hour
Metro cities such as Bengaluru, Delhi, and Gurgaon recorded the highest order volumes, while emerging cities like Bareilly, Bhopal, and Dehradun also showed strong demand.
One Delhi-based customer spent Rs 11,980 on a Navratri feast, ordering multiple thalis and beverages for a group gathering.
Eid Celebrations Led by Biryani Craze
Eid al-Fitr (March 21, 2026) saw a massive surge in orders, with biryani emerging as the clear favourite. Across India, over 200 biryani orders were placed every minute during the celebrations.Desserts were equally popular, with gulab jamun averaging 11 orders per minute nationwide. A customer in Noida placed the highest Eid order worth Rs 38,165, while a Mumbai user ordered three large packs of mutton biryani worth Rs 15,866, enough to serve around 15 people.
Major cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Delhi led Eid consumption, while smaller cities such as Shillong, Agartala, and Dibrugarh also saw notable activity.
IPL 2026 Boosts Dining Out Trends
The start of IPL 2026 significantly boosted dining-out culture. Swiggy Dineout bookings increased by 31% compared to the opening day of the previous season.Restaurants offering live match screenings saw a surge of over 30% in bookings on March 28. Notably, reservations for the 7 pm match slot rose by 22.4%, as fans preferred to watch games in social settings.
Group dining also surged, with bookings for groups of five or more rising by nearly 25%. The largest single booking was for a group of 30 in Bengaluru.
Cities See Big Savings Through Offers
Bengaluru, which hosted the opening IPL match, witnessed a 21% increase in bookings compared to the previous weekend. Diners in the city collectively saved over Rs 96 lakh through Swiggy Dineout offers.Mumbai followed suit, with customers saving over Rs 63 lakh in a single day as the cricket excitement moved to the city.
Changing Food and Dining Habits
The data highlights a clear shift in consumer behaviour, Indians are increasingly choosing convenience, group dining, and celebratory ordering during festivals and major events.While casual dining restaurants remained the most popular choice, pubs, bars, and lounges recorded the highest growth, emerging as preferred spots for watching live sports.
