Bengaluru man bites off wife’s finger, eats it; FIR lodged

A man in Bengaluru was arrested for allegedly biting off and swallowing his wife's finger during a heated argument. The accused husband, Vijaykumar, had reportedly physically and mentally tortured his wife for years before the incident.

A shocking case of domestic violence has been reported from Karnataka's Bengaluru. As reported by the news wire agency IANS, a man has been booked in a case of domestic violence in which the man is accused of biting off his wife's finger.

As per the First Information Report (FIR), the man allegedly bit his wife's finger and swallowed it during a fight in Bengaluru, the IANS report quoted police as saying on Thursday.

According to police, the incident took place on July 28. The incident came to light after the woman filed a complaint against her husband with the Konanakunte police station in the city.


The accused husband, Vijaykumar, is now facing legal consequences in the case.

As reported, the woman named Puspa was married to Vijaykumar 23 years ago.

"Since their marriage, the accused used to torture his wife physically and mentally. Unable to take in the torture, the woman moved out of their house with their son and started living separately," reported IANS.

As reported, on July 28, Vijaykumar went to Puspa's house. An argument ensued, and in the midst of the altercation, he viciously bit one of her fingers on the left hand and shockingly ingested it. The complainant recounted that he even threatened to kill and consume her in a similar manner.

The accused had also intimidated the victim through connections with rowdy-sheeters.

Following this horrifying incident, the woman filed a formal complaint with the police, prompting an ongoing investigation into the matter.

Thousands of domestic violence cases are reported in India every year. As per the National Commission of Women, 6900 complaints of domestic violence were reported last year.

As per NCW data, Uttar Pradesh tops the list with almost 55 per cent of total complaints of domestic violence, followed by Delhi (10%), and Maharashtra (5%) in 2021.
