Bengaluru "least liveable" city in India, ranked 146th Globally
India's IT hub Bengaluru has been ranked 146th in the Global Liveability Index 2022 released by the European Intelligence Unit.

Among all the five factors, the EUI gives the most weightage to culture and environment, and stability. Both the factors account for 50% of the weightage in the ranking, with 25% each. Healthcare and infrastructure are given the weightage of 20% each, while education's share is 10% in the ranking.
It is for the first time that five Indian cities have found a place on this list. Delhi has been ranked the best liveable city in India, followed by Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru. However, Delhi's global ranking is 140th in the index. Mumbai was ranked 141st, while Chennai and Ahmedabad secured the 142nd and 143rd ranks in the list. Bengaluru ranked the least among the Indian cities, standing at 146th position globally.
Interestingly, Bengaluru was ranked first in the "Ease of Living Index 2020" report published by the Indian government.
The Silicon City of India, Bengaluru, could fetch an overall score of only 54.4 out of 100 in the EUI's index. Notably, Bengaluru could score only 46.4 out of 100 in the infrastructure category, which is lower than Pakistan's Karachi city. In the infrastructure segment, Bengaluru shared the rank of the third-least livable city worldwide with Lagos in Nigeria.
The EIU takes several parameters into account for ranking cities' infrastructure. The parameters include public transportation, quality of roads, telecommunications, energy provision, water, international links, and access to quality housing.
The Global Liveability Index 2020, released on June 24, ranked Vienna as the most liveable city in the world. On the other hand, the capital of Syria, Damascus, was ranked the least liveable city in the world.
