The incident occurred on June 30 and came to light after the 35-year-old victim, employed as a Technical Test Lead, filed a complaint. She told police that while using the ladies’ washroom, she noticed a reflection on the door and then saw a mobile phone being operated from the adjacent cubicle.
Acting on suspicion, she stood on the commode to check the next stall and was shocked to find a man—allegedly partially undressed—positioned on the toilet and recording her.
The woman immediately exited the washroom and alerted her colleagues, who prevented the accused from fleeing. He was later identified as Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a Senior Associate Consultant at Infosys who had joined the company just three months earlier. Mali hails from Sangli, Maharashtra.
Coworkers who checked his phone reportedly found video footage of the complainant, another recording of a different female employee, and over 50 videos downloaded from the internet. While the original video was deleted, a screenshot was preserved and submitted as evidence.
The victim informed the company’s HR department and subsequently filed a police complaint with the support of her husband.
Police have booked Mali under Section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. The investigation is ongoing.
Infosys has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
