Bengaluru floods: Unacademy CEO Gaurav Munjal's family evacuated on tractor

Gaurav Munjal, the CEO and co-founder of Edtech company Unacademy, took to Twitter to share his ordeal. He said that his family and his pet dog had to be evacuated from their society on a tractor following waterlogging.

Amid heavy rains, several parts of Bengaluru remained waterlogged for the second straight day prompting many offices asking their employees to work from home. Other unfortunates had to find some way to reach their offices, including even on tractors!

The floods have not spared the city's richest either.

Gaurav Munjal, the CEO and co-founder of Edtech company Unacademy, took to Twitter to share his ordeal. He said that his family and his pet dog had to be evacuated from their society on a tractor following waterlogging.


“Family and my Pet Albus have been evacuated on a Tractor from our society that’s now submerged. Things are bad. Please take care. DM me if you need any help, I’ll try my best to help.(Sic)” tweeted Munjal.


Normal lives have been thrown out of gear in Bengaluru following heavy rains, resulting in severe waterlogging in many parts of the city. This has led several private schools to declare holidays while others switched to online teaching. Many offices have also switched to work from home.

As per TV reports and videos doing the rounds on the internet, basements of shops and apartments got flooded following heavy rains.

According to Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, some areas in the state capital have received 150 per cent more rains than normal between September 1 and 5. Mahadevapura, Bommanahalli and K R Puram have recorded 307 per cent excess rain, he said, without elaborating.

"This was the highest rainfall in the last 42 years. All the 164 tanks in Bengaluru are filled to the brim," he said.

Meanwhile, IMD has warned the city may see more rainfall till this Friday which could further worsen the situation in the city.

The floods have already claimed one life - a 23-year-old woman allegedly died due to electrocution after she came into contact with an electric pole while navigating a flooded road at Siddapura.
