The accused, identified as Vijay Mallikarjun Kamat, 22, a native of Belagavi district, was arrested after the woman filed a formal complaint with Whitefield police. He has denied the flashing allegation, though investigators say he has admitted to entering the apartment.
What did the Bengaluru woman allege happened inside her flat?
According to the woman's complaint and her account shared on social media, the delivery executive arrived at her residence to deliver an online order before asking if he could use her washroom, saying it was an emergency.She said she repeatedly refused his request because she lived alone and did not allow strangers into her home. She also suggested that he seek help from neighbours instead.
Despite this, she alleged that the delivery agent removed his slippers and walked into her apartment without her consent.
Describing what happened next, the woman alleged that after coming out of the washroom, the delivery executive exposed himself to her.
"I felt shocked, violated, humiliated and completely unsafe in my own home," she wrote, adding that she was "terrified" throughout the incident.
She also said, "'No' should have been the end of the conversation. No one has the right to ignore someone's boundaries or enter their home without permission."
What has the accused told police?
According to police, Vijay Mallikarjun Kamat has admitted entering the apartment to use the washroom but has denied exposing himself to the woman. Kamat has told investigators that he entered the apartment only because he genuinely needed to use the washroom.The allegations made by the complainant and the defence put forward by the accused are yet to be tested during the course of the investigation.
What action have Bengaluru police taken?
After the woman filed a formal complaint, Bengaluru Police registered a case under Sections 75, 79 and 329(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police Saidulu Adavath said the accused was arrested following the complaint.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident.
What has Flipkart said?
In a statement, Flipkart said it was "deeply disturbed" by the incident and had immediately terminated the delivery partner's engagement."We are deeply disturbed by the incident and are extending our full support to the customer. Customer safety is non-negotiable."
The company said the delivery executive had been removed from its platform as soon as the matter came to its attention.
It added that an FIR has been registered and that it is fully cooperating with the investigating authorities.
Flipkart also said all delivery partners undergo background verification and mandatory training before onboarding, while adding that incidents of this nature are "extremely rare", but "even a single such incident is unacceptable."
The company said it is reviewing the incident to determine whether additional measures are required to further strengthen customer safety.
How did the incident come to light?
The woman initially narrated the incident through a video posted on social media, where she described feeling unsafe after the delivery executive allegedly entered her home despite repeated refusals.The post drew widespread attention, after which Bengaluru Police contacted her and she subsequently filed a formal complaint.
