A 35-year-old tech professional allegedly died by suicide following a domestic quarrel with her mother-in-law in north Bengaluru, police said on Wednesday, reports PTI.

The deceased, identified as Sushma, was found hanging at her residence in Abbigere on Monday. Police said a fresh altercation had reportedly broken out between Sushma and her mother-in-law, Kalpana, over cooking shortly before the incident.

Allegations of harassment and investigation

According to police, the family had been witnessing frequent quarrels over trivial matters in recent months. On Monday, Kalpana allegedly prevented Sushma from cooking and subjected her to repeated harassment on various issues, as per claims made by Sushma’s family.

Based on a complaint lodged by her family at the Soladevanahalli police station accusing her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment, her husband, Puneeth Kumar, has been taken into custody for questioning, a senior police officer said.

Sushma had been married to Kumar for five years and the couple had a four-year-old son. She was employed with an IT firm.

Police have registered a case and further investigation is under way, the officer said.
