Bengaluru couple’s long weekend video goes viral, sums up city travel chaos

A Bengaluru-based IITian couple’s Instagram video has gone viral for capturing the shared travel rush during the Republic Day long weekend, as many residents stepped out for short trips amid heavy crowds and packed public transport.

The video, shared by Reshma Bhagat and Prabhat Kumar on their joint Instagram account, reflects the experience of travellers during the three-day weekend that included Saturday, Sunday and the Republic Day holiday on Monday.

Long weekend travel rush resonates online


In the clip, the couple is seen standing by the roadside with their luggage, appearing ready for a quick getaway. The opening text on the video read in Hindi, “Humne socha long weekend hai kahin ghumne chale jate hai,” which translates to, “We thought it is a long weekend, so let us go somewhere for a trip.”

The tone shifts in the following frames, showing large crowds lining up and boarding buses. Another text overlay read, “Pure Bengaluru ne bhi yahi socha,” meaning, “The entire Bengaluru thought the same thing.” The video concluded with the caption, “Aaj k baad long weekend pe kahi nahi jana,” translated as, “From now on, not travelling anywhere on a long weekend.”
