Bengaluru burglar with 3 wives and 9 kids trains minor son for daylight thefts to fund chaotic family life

A 35-year-old man named Babajan, married to three women and father of nine children, was arrested by the Electronics City police for committing a series of burglaries with his 16-year-old son as his partner in crime, as per a TOI report.

According to the police quoted by TOI, Babajan had no steady job and turned to burglary to support his complicated family life. His three wives live separately in Srirangapatna, Anekal, and Chikkaballapura, and he would visit them as he pleased. To fund this lifestyle, he started stealing from houses and recently even roped in his teenage son, thinking minors don’t receive harsh punishments.

Their latest crime took place on May 7, when they stole valuables worth Rs 4.6 lakh from the house of a 56-year-old woman named Rojamma in Bettadasanapura. She had gone to the terrace to dry clothes, leaving the ground-floor door open, which gave the boy a chance to sneak in and grab gold, silver, and cash.


Police say Babajan had been involved in thefts for the last eight years and used to target homes where doors were left open or residents were distracted. He would drop off his son near a potential target and signal him when it was safe to enter.

However, their luck ran out on May 13, when Inspector Naveen GM and his team identified Babajan using CCTV footage and arrested him from Mylasandra. He confessed to training his son for daytime thefts.

Police have recovered 188 grams of gold, 550 grams of silver, and a two-wheeler linked to nine theft cases involving the duo.
