The scary reality check on beetroot
Dr. Prajapati begins by questioning a common health claim. "If you also believe that eating beetroot increases your body's blood supply, then stop," he says in the video. He then raises concerns about contamination. "Beet root is a very dangerous thing," he said. "Beetroot is a root vegetable that grows in the soil. It contains bacteria, parasites and harmful viruses. Consuming it can cause vomiting, diarrhea or food poisoning."
He also warns about vulnerable groups. "If women are pregnant then they may have miscarriages," he notes.
He adds a long-term concern: "Because beetroots are roots vegetables. They contain harmful metals and pesticides. By consuming them our vital organs like heart liver kidney get damaged."
Who should skip it altogether?
The Ayurvedacharya lists groups who may face higher risks from eating raw beetroot. "Eating beetroots also increases your risk of getting calcium stones," he explains. On the iron myth, he offers a counterpoint. "Many people think that there are too many ions in the beetroots. Do you know 100 grams of beetroots contain 1 microgram ion? You will get more than this in spinach," he says.
But don’t toss beetroot yet
Despite the warning, Dr. Prajapati does not advise people to avoid beetroot completely. He instead suggests a safer way to consume it."So shouldn't we eat beet roots? No, no, if you like to consume beet root then do so. But make sure you wash them properly. Peel them. And cook them before consuming."
The doctor ends with a clear message: "Stay safe."
