In a historic announcement, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that the cricket governing body in India has agreed to pay equal match fee to both men's and women's cricket teams centrally contracted players. The board is taking action to combat discrimination, according to a tweet from Jay Shah.

Elaborating on the revised pay structure, Jay Shah said that the match fee for female cricketers will be the same as for male cricketers. He said that the fees for Test match would be Rs 15 lakh, for ODI would be Rs 6 lakh, and for T20I would be Rs 3 lakhs. Jay Shah further stated that his promise to the country’s female cricket players was pay fairness, and he is very grateful to the Apex Council for its backing.

Harbhajan Singh, former Indian cricketer, applauded the BCCI's "pay equity policy" for players. He said that BCCI has now set a high standard for other sports bodies.
