On Thursday, October 27, BCCI secretary Jay Shah made a historic decision on a "pay equity policy,' announcing that the cricket organisation will pay equal match fees to its centrally-contracted female and male players to promote gender equality in cricket. This unprecedented move was applauded by many Bollywood celebs.

The 'Pathaan' star Shah Rukh Khan tweeted, quoting Jay Shah, that it was a terrific front-foot shot. Since sports serve as such a great equalizer, he thinks it will open the door for others to follow.

Meanwhile, Khiladi Akshay Kumar expressed his gratitude to the BCCI after reading the tweet, and he added how he was feeling elated after reading the news. He went on to say that it was an excellent step that would go a long way toward encouraging our female players to take up professional cricket.

Taapsee Pannu, in the 2022 film "Shaabash Mithu", played the role based on the life of former Indian captain Mithali Raj. She expressed her appreciation to the BCCI and commented that it was a big step toward equal compensation for equal effort. She praised the BCCI for setting a good example.
