1. Wipe the Tap After Every Use

One of the easiest ways to prevent water stains is to wipe the tap regularly. Use a soft, dry microfiber cloth to remove water droplets after using the sink. This helps reduce the amount of mineral residue left behind as the water dries.

2. Use White Vinegar for Limescale

White vinegar can help loosen mineral deposits and limescale that build up around taps.

How to Use It

  • Mix equal parts white vinegar and water.
  • Soak a soft cloth in the mixture.
  • Wrap the cloth around the affected area.
  • Leave it for a few minutes.
  • Gently wipe the tap and rinse with clean water.
  • Dry the surface with a soft cloth.
  • Avoid leaving acidic solutions on delicate finishes for long periods.
3. Try Dish Soap for Soap Marks

For everyday soap residue, fingerprints and light grease, a small amount of mild dishwashing liquid can be useful.

Mix a few drops of dish soap with warm water and wipe the tap using a soft cloth or sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry the surface to prevent new water spots.

4. Clean Around the Tap Base

Dirt and soap residue often collect around the base of the tap, where it meets the sink. Use a soft toothbrush or small cleaning brush to reach these narrow areas. Apply a little soapy water, gently scrub the buildup and wipe the area clean with a damp cloth.

5. Remove Dirt From the Tap Aerator

The small screen at the end of a tap can collect mineral deposits and dirt, which may affect the water flow.

6. Avoid Harsh Scrubbing

Do not use rough scrubbers, steel wool or abrasive powders on bathroom taps, as they can scratch the surface or damage the finish. A soft cloth, sponge or soft-bristled brush is generally a better choice.

7. Check the Tap Finish Before Cleaning

Not all taps have the same finish. Chrome, stainless steel, matte black, brass and other finishes may require different cleaning methods. Check the manufacturer's care instructions before using vinegar or another cleaning solution.

How Often Should You Clean Bathroom Taps?

For everyday maintenance, wipe the tap with a dry cloth regularly and clean it more thoroughly once a week or whenever you notice buildup. Homes with hard water may need more frequent cleaning because mineral deposits can develop faster.
