The promotion and showing of Hansal Mehta's "Faraaz," in Bangladeshi theatres and online platforms were prohibited on Monday by the Bangladesh High Court. Faraaz premiered on February 3rd to mixed reviews from critics. This film is based on the 2016 Dhaka attack, in which 22 people were killed, the majority of whom were foreigners, and seven terrorists were sentenced to death.

The high court bench of justices Md Khasruzzaman and Md Iqbal Kabir issued an order forbidding the film's screening in Bangladesh after hearing a writ petition.

Ruba Ahmed, the mother of Abinta Kabir, who was murdered by militants in the strike at the Holey Artisan cafe on July 1, 2016, filed the writ petition.

The Bangladesh Film Censor Board has not yet given its approval for the movie. The same request to delay the film's release in Bangladesh was made on January 19 by Ruba Ahmed, who claimed that it might damage Bangladesh's reputation.

Later, the petitioner's lawyer, Ahsanul Karim, stated that the petition was filed to prevent the film from being shown in cinemas in Bangladesh as well as on online platforms, according to the Dhaka Tribune.

"The film's footage depicts two militants conversing, one of whom was or is related to Abinta. Her attire was presented in a way that educated families in our civilised society never would wear. In the film, the girl's character was diminished "According to the Dhaka Tribune, Karim stated.

"Furthermore, the film depicted the failure of law enforcement officers, raising serious concerns about our sovereignty. For these reasons, this film should not be shown in Bangladesh on any platform "Karim continued.
