Bangladesh Violence: Businessman brutally attacked, set on fire
A Bangladeshi businessman, Khokon Chandra Das, was brutally attacked, hacked, and set ablaze by unidentified assailants in Damudya, Shariatpur. The 50-year-old, who runs a medicine and mobile banking business, was returning home when intercepted....

The incident occurred around 9:30 pm near Keurbhanga Bazaar in Koneshwar Union of Damudya Upazila. Khokon, who runs a medicine shop and a mobile banking business, was returning home in an autorickshaw after closing his shop when the attackers intercepted the vehicle on the Damudya–Shariatpur road, according to officials.
The assailants allegedly stopped the vehicle, assaulted him, and then attacked him with sharp weapons. They later poured petrol on him and set him on fire.
In a desperate attempt to save his life, Khokon reportedly jumped into a nearby pond. Hearing screams from nearby residents, the attackers fled the scene, eyewitnesses said.
Locals rushed Khokon to Shariatpur Sadar Hospital, where doctors referred him to Dhaka due to the severity of his injuries. Medical officials confirmed that he suffered multiple injuries across his body.
Khokon’s wife, Seema Das, said her husband was able to identify two of the attackers. “We have no disputes with anyone. We do not understand why he was targeted.”
Police officials stated that two local residents, identified as Rabbi and Sohag, have been named in the case. Authorities said efforts are underway to arrest the suspects and identify others involved in the attack.
