Punjabi singer and lyricist Baljeet Singh, aged around 35, was found dead at his residence in Ludhiana on Thursday, police said. His body was recovered in a highly decomposed condition.

Singh had been living alone at his house in the Sudhar Patti Dhaliwal area, according to police. Neighbours alerted authorities after noticing a foul smell coming from the residence.

Sudhar Station House Officer (SHO) Kulwinder Singh and other police personnel reached the spot after receiving the alert. The body was subsequently sent to Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination, while Singh’s relatives were informed.


According to the SHO, the post-mortem report indicated that Singh died of a heart attack. Police said further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death is underway.

Baljeet Singh may have been dead for several days

Police reportedly found Singh’s body lying on a bed inside the residence. Traces of blood were also reportedly found around the house, prompting authorities to examine the circumstances surrounding the death more closely.

Since Singh lived alone and had reportedly not been in contact with his family for several days, police suspect that he may have died around four to five days before his body was discovered.

The highly decomposed condition of the body was consistent with the possibility that he had been dead for several days. However, police have said the post-mortem examination pointed to a heart attack as the cause of death.

Baljeet Singh was known in Punjabi music circles as a singer and lyricist. He had built a following among Punjabi music listeners through his work in the regional music industry.

Singh’s death comes at a time when concerns over the safety of artists in North India's regional music industry have received renewed attention.

The incident follows the recent killing of Haryana singer Ankit Balyan, who was reportedly shot by unidentified assailants in front of a gymnasium in Shamli.

While there is no indication that Singh’s death is connected to that incident, the two cases have prompted renewed discussion about the safety and security of artists working in the region.

Police are continuing to investigate Singh’s death, and further information is expected as the probe progresses.
