Delhi Police have dismantled a kids trafficking network involved in the illegal sale and purchase of newborn babies, arresting 12 people, including the suspected mastermind, a woman who allegedly posed as a doctor, reports ANI.

According to police sources, the woman runs a nursing home and claimed to be a medical practitioner. Authorities are verifying her educational and professional qualifications and have not yet confirmed whether she is a licensed doctor.

Infants allegedly sold for lakhs after records manipulated

Investigators suspect the syndicate sourced newborn babies from multiple states, altered birth records and related documents, and sold the infants to prospective parents for lakhs of rupees.

Police have rescued five newborns during the operation. The infants include one four-month-old baby, two aged 27 days, one aged 20 days, and another just five days old.

Arrests made in Delhi and Rajasthan

The accused were apprehended in Delhi and Rajasthan. Preliminary findings indicate that some of the infants were allegedly sold in Haryana.

Police sources said evidence gathered so far suggests that more than 20 newborn babies may have been trafficked through the network.
