Famous veteran Assamese actor Nipon Goswami passed away at Nemcare Hospital in Guwahati on Thursday morning due to heart-related issues. The Sangram actor's health deteriorated on Monday, which was Diwali. He was immediately rushed to the hospital. He was kept in the ICU under constant observation by the doctors.

The actor was born on September 3, 1942, in Kolibri, Tezpurin, Assam. He completed his primary education from Kolibri LP School . His parents were part of the entertainment industry. His mother was a famous singer, and his father was also an actor.

He graduated from the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) alongside prominent film industry veterans. Shubhash Ghai and Shatrughan Sinha were his batchmates during his studies period at the FTII.


Goswami made his debut as a child artist in the 1957 film Fani Sarma's Piyali Phukan.

Sangram was Nipon Goswami's first Assamese film and first success as a lead actor in an Assamese film. During the years that followed, he appeared in several films, including Dr. Bezbaruah, released in 1969. As a character actor, he appeared in several Hindi films.

The film fraternity of Assam mourns the death of one of its most respected actors. Some of his mobile theatres include Abraham, Kohinoor, Hangul, and Shakuntala. There are also some TV serials where he appeared, including 'Writu aahe writu jahe.'
