On the day of Ashadhi Devshayani Ekadashi, devotees wake up early, bathe, and begin the day with the remembrance of Lord Vishnu. The idol of the deity is placed on a yellow cloth and offered incense, lamp, unbroken rice (akshat), and yellow flowers as part of the Shodashopachara ritual.

Lord Vishnu is especially offered yellow-colored food as bhog (offering). Devotees believe that observing this fast with full devotion and following all rituals helps in getting rid of sins.

Devshayani Ekadashi 2025: Traditional Bhog Preparation

Yellow is considered Lord Vishnu’s favorite color, and devotees prepare peda as bhog. The peda is made using milk or khoya. Milk is boiled until thickened and then mixed with sugar. It is important to keep stirring to prevent burning. Once the mixture cools down, cardamom powder and more sugar are added. The final mixture is shaped as desired and offered to the deity.
