Veteran singer Asha Bhosle has passed away at the age of 92, her son Anand Bhosle confirmed, according to ANI. The iconic singer had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday, where she breathed her last today. The hospital stated that she died due to multi-organ failure.

Born in 1933, Asha Bhosle began her musical career at a young age and gained recognition in the 1950s. She went on to become one of the most celebrated playback singers in the world, admired for her expressive, versatile, and dynamic voice.

Throughout her remarkable career, she recorded thousands of songs in various Indian languages, seamlessly exploring genres such as classical, ghazal, cabaret, pop, and folk. Her collaborations with renowned composers and filmmakers resulted in some of Hindi cinema’s most iconic songs, firmly establishing her as a cultural legend.


Asha Bhosle belonged to the legendary Mangeshkar family, known for its immense contribution to Indian music, with several members being celebrated singers and composers. Asha Bhosle was an Indian playback singer and entrepreneur who mainly worked in Indian cinema. Renowned for her versatility, she is widely regarded as one of the most influential and greatest singers in Hindi cinema. Over a career spanning more than eight decades, she recorded songs for films and albums in multiple Indian languages and earned numerous accolades.

Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti Mangeshkar were the parents of Asha Bhosle. Apart from her siblings were sisters Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Khadikar, along with brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar.

Asha Bhosle married Ganpatrao Bhosle at the age of 16 in 1949, but the marriage ended in separation in 1960. She later married noted composer R. D. Burman in 1980, and they remained together until his death in 1994.

She has three children, Hemant Bhosle, Varsha Bhosle, and Anand Bhosle. Hemant and Varsha are no longer alive.

Her achievements earned widespread recognition, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian honour. In 2011, she was also listed by Guinness World Records as the most-recorded artist in music history.
