Rajinikanth tweets this as Tamil Nadu hosts Chess Olympiad

As India hosts the 44th Chess Olympiad, there is one superstar joining in the excitement. Actor Rajinikanth tweeted a picture of himself at a game of chess, showing how much he loves the game.

"An indoor game I love the most … wishing all the chess minds the very best...god bless," he tweeted from his handle using the #ChessOlympiad2022 hashtag.

The throwback picture he tweeted shows him playing white pieces against an unnamed opponent. He doesn't say when it was from, and the picture shows the Thalaivar deep in thought.


The 44th Chess Olympiad is being held in Mahabalipuram near Chennai. Over the last few weeks, chess-crazy Tamil Nadu pulled out all stops to promote the event which is being held in India for the first time ever.

For the fans of the Thalaivar, more used to seeing him beat up the bad guys on screen, this tweet was another cause for celebration.

The Chess Olympiad will be held from July 28 to August 10. It will feature three Indian teams each in the Open and women's events. Viswanathan Anand will not be playing but will be a mentor to the players.
