An artist named Madhav Kohli has developed artificial intelligence-enabled artwork representing some of India's most prominent kings. Images of Chandragupta Maurya, Bindusara, Ashoka, Ranjit Singh, Akbar, Muhammad Ghori, and Shah Jahan shared in a twitter thread seem fanciful. The thread displays portraits of 21 rulers and Kohli had titled the post 'The most powerful Indian Rulers in History Created using AI. The post has currently had 48.6K views.

This has sparked a debate concerning the ethnicity of some of the emperors. Several people have observed that the portraits of each monarch had qualities like sharp noses, with nearly little variance in their complexion, despite the fact that these rulers were from diverse geographical locations. A Twitter user pointed out that most Mughal monarchs of mixed ancestry were represented with mongoloid characteristics and appeared to be right out of China.

A Twitter user stated that the representations of the Mughals were realistic! They were Mongols who had no Indian traits. Another Twitter user questioned the images' accuracy and inquired if they were supposed to be historically accurate and congruent with recognised portraits and descriptions. He went on to say that these were more extrapolations than reality.

This isn't the first time AI-generated photos have provoked intense debate on social media. Previously, it was the images of Indian brides and grooms that drew criticism for their stereotyped portrayal. In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has improved substantially. People utilise it in their daily lives, and many artists use it to construct fictional settings. From snow-covered Kolkata to smog-covered Delhi, AI has the power to generate the inconceivable.
