Around 10 vehicles stolen daily in Gurgaon. Here are the areas where criminals are most active
In Gurgaon, an average of 10 vehicles are stolen every day, with only a small percentage of cases being resolved by the police. Out of the 2,478 reported motor vehicle thefts in the first eight months of this year, only 286 cases have been solved....

Senior police officials have expressed their efforts to address unsolved cases by conducting daily reviews with the investigating officers. However, the recovery rate remains low due to the swift transportation of stolen vehicles out of the state immediately after thefts. The challenge is compounded by inadequate surveillance infrastructure in many parts of the city, including the lack of CCTV cameras, making it difficult for law enforcement to identify and track stolen vehicles.
Moreover, criminals employ sophisticated techniques such as tampering with vehicle number plates and using GPS jammers, making it even more challenging for the police to trace and recover the stolen vehicles. Vehicle thieves often operate in organised gangs across state borders, complicating investigations and the apprehension of suspects. The majority of stolen vehicles are two-wheelers, which are easier to break into, whereas cars pose more significant challenges due to their advanced security systems. Additionally, the delayed implementation of high-security registration plates has further hindered efforts to prevent thieves from switching to fake plates.
Major hotspots for vehicle thefts in Gurgaon include densely populated areas like DLF regions, Udyog Vihar, Sohna, Pataudi, Bilaspur, and Kherki Daula, where high footfall and crowded parking areas make them attractive targets for criminals.
Despite these challenges, the police have shown some success in apprehending criminals. Recently, three individuals involved in multiple cases of snatching and armed car thefts since 2020 were arrested. The accused were part of a larger network engaged in vehicle theft and the sale of stolen vehicles at discounted prices. These criminals not only stole vehicles but also utilised them for various other criminal activities, including bootlegging.
