Apple is about to release a new app called Apple Music Classical, which is specifically designed for users who enjoy classical music. The app will be available globally on March 28th, alongside the existing Apple Music apps for iOS and Android. According to Apple, users will not need to purchase a separate subscription to enjoy music on the new platform.

Apple Music Classical appears to be limited to iPhone users at first, and the app will support “highest audio quality” (up to 192 kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Lossless). Users who own AirPods will be able to listen to spatial audio with no advertisements.

According to its App Store listing, the Apple Music Classical will support six languages, including English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish, and will work with iPhone 6 and above. Users must also ensure that they are running iOS 15.4 or later.

According to Apple, the Apple Music Classical app makes it simple for beginners to become acquainted with classical music by providing Essentials playlists, insightful composer biographies, and deep-dive guides.

The app will initially include over five million tracks. Apple Music, on the other hand, has over 100 million songs. The classic app is incompatible with Apple Music Voice Plan (yet). Furthermore, Apple Music Classical will be unavailable to users in China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Taiwan, Turkey, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

The app’s release has been anticipated since the company acquired Primephonic in 2021. The app is known for offering premium classical music streaming services. Primephonic’s dedicated app will be decommissioned in September 2021. The company promises to “regularly” add new playlists to its dedicated classical music app.

Following the launch, Apple will have three dedicated music apps: Apple Music, Apple Music Classical, and Podcast. Although the podcast app is free to use, some special shows and series require a separate subscription. It is unknown whether the Apple Music Classical app will be included in the next iOS release. If that happens, Apple will almost certainly give users the option to delete the app. However, if it is pre-installed, the app's download statistics will increase automatically.
