iPhone 17e launch rumours point to February debut, MagSafe upgrade
Apple’s iPhone 17e could arrive sooner than expected. The company's next "budget-friendly" iPhone is widely rumoured to launch later this month, with internet chatter pointing to a mid-February debut. Almost exactly a year after Apple introduced the iPhone 16e.

According to Macworld, details about the upcoming iPhone 17e have begun circulating among case and accessory makers, with one source suggesting the phone could launch as early as February 19. While Apple does not officially share launch timelines with accessory partners, such companies often rely on supply-chain signals and internal cues to time their own releases.

Interestingly, February 19 falls on a Thursday — an unusual day for Apple product launches. However, Apple announced the iPhone 16e last year via a simple press release rather than a full event, meaning the company could follow a similar low-key approach this time around.

The rumoured launch window also comes amid a busy start to the year for Apple. The company recently announced a new AirTag, while reports suggest refreshed M5 Pro and M5 Max MacBook Pros could also arrive in early February.

iPhone 17e: What to expect?

One of the most notable upgrades tipped for the iPhone 17e is the addition of MagSafe support. Reports suggest that industry sources have confirmed the device will support MagSafe wireless charging at up to 25W. For context, the iPhone 16e only supported slower 7.5W Qi wireless charging and skipped MagSafe entirely.

The Information had earlier reported that MagSafe would arrive on the 17e, a claim that now appears to be gaining traction across multiple reports.

Beyond that, the overall design is expected to remain familiar. The iPhone 17e is likely to stick with a single rear camera and retain the notch on the front, with the Dynamic Island expected to stay exclusive to higher-end models for now.

That said, CNET points to leaks suggesting the notch could finally be phased out in favour of the Dynamic Island. If that happens, it would mark a major design shift for Apple’s entry-level iPhone, though this remains unconfirmed.

iPhone 17e: Expected specifications

While the exterior may not change much, the iPhone 17e is expected to receive several internal upgrades. PCMag, citing Japanese blog Mac Otakara, reports that the phone will feature Apple’s A19 chip, bringing performance and power-efficiency improvements in line with the flagship iPhone 17 series.

The device is also expected to include Apple’s newer C1X modem for 5G and LTE connectivity, along with the N1 chip for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Apple has said the C1X is twice as fast as the earlier C1 modem, while the N1 chip improves features such as AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.

The iPhone 16e lacked Apple’s ultra-wideband chips (U1 or U2), limiting Precision Finding features. With Apple recently announcing a new AirTag, it is possible — though not guaranteed — that ultra-wideband support could make its way to the 17e.

iPhone 17e: Expected price

The iPhone 17e is expected to remain positioned as Apple’s entry-level model, but not a cheap one.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that the iPhone 17e will likely to be priced around $599, similar to the iPhone 16e, which replaced the iPhone SE in Apple’s lineup.
