Apple iOS 27 software update releases today: Check compatible iPhones, new features and how to download

Apple has started rolling out iOS 27 to eligible iPhones in India from September 14. The update reaches devices as an over the air download and follows several months of developer and public testing after it was first shown at WWDC 2026.

The software brings a reworked Siri experience, a more customisable Liquid Glass interface, stronger Visual Intelligence tools and a wider set of parental controls. Apple has not shared an exact time for the rollout, but based on how past updates have gone out, it is expected to begin around 10.30pm IST.

When will iOS 27 arrive in India


Apple's website lists September 14 as the launch date for India. A few markets in Asia such as Singapore and Hong Kong show September 15 because of the time difference rather than any delay in the rollout itself. Not everyone will see the update the moment it goes live, since availability can shift slightly by device and region. Download speeds may also be slower than usual in the first few hours because of heavy demand on Apple's servers.

Which iPhones can install iOS 27

The update supports the iPhone 11 series and every model that came after it. That list runs from the iPhone 11 series through the iPhone 18 series, along with the iPhone Duo and both the second and third generation iPhone SE. The newly launched iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone Duo already run iOS 27 straight out of the box.

How to download and install iOS 27

Before starting the update, back up all important data and make sure the iPhone has enough charge or stays plugged in during the process.

• Open the Settings app on the iPhone


• Go to General, then tap Software Update


• Wait a moment for the phone to check for the latest version


• Once iOS 27 shows up, tap Download and Install


• Follow the prompts on screen and let the phone restart once installation finishes

A new Siri built with help from Google

One of the biggest changes in iOS 27 is a fresh Siri experience delivered through a dedicated Siri app, where users can start new conversations and return to earlier ones. Apple has combined its own Foundation Models with Google's Gemini models to power this version, and says the assistant can pull details from other apps and carry out tasks across them using personal context. The AI powered Siri is rolling out in beta and works only in English for now, with support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish expected by October.

Sharper Visual Intelligence and a more flexible interface

Visual Intelligence has also been expanded in this update. Users can open the Camera app to identify objects and scenes, ask Siri questions about what they are looking at, and take related actions directly from there. The same tool can also read and respond to whatever is showing on the screen at the time.

The Liquid Glass interface introduced with iOS 26 now includes a slider that lets users adjust how transparent or frosted the interface elements appear, along with small tweaks to how app icons look across the system.

More parental controls and everyday upgrades

Families get more oversight in iOS 27 with additions like Ask to Buy and Ask to Browse, contact approval settings, time allowances and scheduled usage limits.

Several smaller changes round out the update too. These include extra large widgets for the home screen, an option to shrink the lock screen clock, separate volume sliders for ringtones, alarms, timers, alerts and system sounds, a redesigned Phone app, contextual suggestions inside Messages and Mail, and a Safari feature that groups open tabs by topic.

macOS and iPadOS updates expected around the same time

Apple is also expected to release macOS Golden Gate along with iPadOS 27 close to the iOS 27 rollout. For most iPhone users though, the update will simply appear as an option inside the Software Update menu once it becomes available for their device.
