As per Hindu scriptures, Lord Krishna emphasized on the importance of Apara Ekadashi to Yudhishthir. The word "Apara" means limitless, and the Pandavas observed fast on this day to win the Mahabharata battle.

According to the Drik Panchang, the Apara Ekadashi fast is observed on the 11th day (Ekadashi Tithi) of the waning phase (Krishna Paksha) of the Jayeshtha month. This year, it falls on May 15, 2023.

Apara Ekadashi: Rituals
Devotees observe a fast to purify their body, mind, and soul and perform several spiritual and religious activities throughout the day. It is believed that this fast is so powerful that people can even attain salvation by observing it.
On the day of Apara Ekadashi, devotees wake up early in the morning and take a bath before beginning their puja rituals. They put an idol of Lord Vishnu, and light a diya with ghee. They offer flowers or garlands to the idol and prepare bhog prasad and panchamrit for the evening puja. During the puja, they offer the prepared bhog prasad and recite Lord Vishnu Aarti.
It is believed among devotees that chanting the “Om Namo Bhagvate Vasudevaye” mantra throughout the day on Ekadashi is very auspicious. Many devotees also visit Lord Krishna and Lord Vishnu temples to seek blessings on this day.
