Anushka Yadav: Tej Pratap's mystery lover stirs Lalu family, jolts Bihar politics; here's what we know about her

Anushka Yadav's name has created major ripples in Bihar politics after former Bihar minister Tej Pratap Yadav, the eldest son of RJD supremo Lalu Yadav, made it public on social media that he has been in a long-term relationship with her.

Rumour mills went into overdrive when a post on Tej Pratap's verified Facebook account revealed that he and Anushka had been “in love and in a relationship for 12 years.” Accompanying the post was a photo of the couple, which ignited extensive discussion and debate across various social media channels.

Tej Pratap had been married to Aishwarya Rai, a scion of another political family of Bihar. The marriage, solemnised in 2018, didn't last and their divorce case in going on.


Shortly after the post gained traction, Tej Pratap Yadav appeared to attempt some kind of damage control saying that his Facebook account had been compromised. Lalu Prasad Yadav's eldest son later disowned the Facebook update, posting on X that his account was hacked and the photo, edited.

He went on to accuse those behind the 'hacking' of trying to “defame and harass” both him and his family.

By then, however, the damage was done. The post had already incited considerable public examination and political fallout. Later in the day, party patriarch Lalu expelled his son from the "party and the family" for his indiscretion, citing "irresponsible behaviour".

Anushka Yadav: So, who is she, really?

Not much about her is on public domain yet. Anushka Yadav tends to maintain a low profile, with minimal publicly available information about her.

Prior to Tej Pratap's sudden revelation, Anushka's name was seldom mentioned in media coverage or political debates. It is believed that Anushka hails from Bihar, and the two are said to have met over a decade ago.

Details regarding her educational background or career endeavors remain scarce. Tej Pratap previously recognised her as a significant figure in his life in his now-deleted Facebook post.

According to some reports in the media, Anushka Yadav is the sister of a close friend of Tej Pratap. Some say that this friend of his has left the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and has since aligned with another political party.
