The accused, identified as Shyamala, allegedly agreed to pay Rs 6 lakh to a local gang to eliminate her 22-year-old son, Jayaprakash Reddy. According to police inspector Gopal Reddy, Jayaprakash, an MBA student at Angallu near Madanapalle in Annamayya district, had reportedly fallen into alcohol addiction and was demanding money frequently, causing tension within the family.
Murder plot uncovered through phone call
Investigators said Shyamala sought help from Mahesh, a farm labourer known to the family, offering him Rs 50,000 as an advance to arrange the killing. Jayaprakash’s body was discovered on November 7 near a liquor shop close to Gollapalli along the Mumbai-Chennai National Highway.The case, initially treated as a suspicious death, took a turn when forensic and dog squad teams were brought in, leading to the identification of the victim. "A phone call from Mahesh's mobile to Shyamala became a key lead," inspector Reddy told TOI.
Eight arrested in murder-for-hire case
Police said Mahesh roped in six others to execute the plan. Shyamala, Mahesh, and the six alleged accomplices have all been arrested.(With inputs from TOI)
