Weather officials said the change is linked to a trough extending from north interior Karnataka to Tamil Nadu, influencing conditions across Telangana.

Will it rain in Hyderabad today?
Hyderabad is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. According to the weather office, temperatures across the state are expected to fall by 3–4°C over the next four to five days as thunderstorms and scattered rains are likely in several districts.
The IMD has said that a weather trough, which earlier extended from Marathwada to north interior Tamil Nadu, has now shifted and runs from north interior Karnataka through south interior Karnataka to the Comorin region at around 0.9 km above mean sea level.

Under its influence, several districts in Telangana are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning over the next three days. Similar weather conditions are expected to persist on Tuesday, with more districts likely to experience rain and thunderstorms on Wednesday.Officials added that this changing weather pattern could bring much-needed relief from the recent heatwave, with maximum temperatures expected to drop by 3–4 degrees Celsius in the coming days.
The department also issued a warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at isolated places in districts including Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanumakonda, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy and Mahbubnagar.
Authorities have warned people to avoid taking shelter under trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms due to the heightened risk of lightning strikes. Meanwhile, farmers have expressed concerns over possible crop damage—especially to mango and chilli crops—caused by unseasonal rain and gusty winds.
