Anand Mahindra, India’s top industrialist, praised the new Delhi-Mumbai Expressway on Monday, describing it as the "most important artery of India's economic highway." The chairman of Mahindra Group retweeted Nitin Gadkari's video showcasing India's "premier engineering marvel," saying it will significantly boost GDP growth by cutting travel times on key routes.

“Well done, Nitin Gadkari, and thank you,” Anand Mahindra said. He called the DME expressway "A true example of world-class highway construction." According to Gadkari, it will increase economic activity in Mumbai and Delhi.

The expressway, which is 1,450 kilometres long, is expected to cut travel time in half, reducing the transit time between the national capital and the financial capital to 12 hours. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first leg, Sohna (Haryana)-Dausa (Rajasthan), which is expected to reduce the 280 km distance between Delhi and Jaipur to around two hours, on February 4.

It is expected to be India's longest motorway when completed in March 2023 as part of the first phase of the 'Bharatmala Pariyojana'. The eight-lane DME, which can be expanded to twelve lanes, will also serve Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat.

Work on the DME, which will reduce the distance between Delhi and Mumbai by 130 kilometres and cost a whopping 98,000 crore, began in 2018. According to the transport ministry, it is the first project in Asia and the second in the world to include 7 km of animal overpasses for the free movement of wildlife. The project will also include two 8-lane tunnels of 4 km each for environmentally sensitive zones.
