Anand Mahindra left surprised at price of 1972 Ambassador car, says ‘I Can Hardly Believe’

Anand Mahindra, the chairman of the Mahindra Group, is well known for sharing his opinions on social media. The trend has suddenly altered, as the business mogul tweeted his shock at the cost of a 1972 Ambassador and a Fiat Car. The tweet demonstrates that at the time, following a price increase, the Fiat 1100-D was priced at Rs 15,946, whereas the Ambassador was valued at Rs 16,946.

The industrialist stated in a tweet, he claimed that this news gave him Sunday nostalgia, and he remembers the time when he was a student at JJ college and used the bus to travel, but his mother would let him drive her blue fiat car occasionally, and even at that time, it was hard to believe that this car was so expensive. In the tweet, he also included a paper cutout of the price increase announcement from January 25, 1972.

The newspaper cutout included the words, "Car prices rose." The statement continued that, Pricing of Ambassador, Fiat, and Standard automobiles will increase with the Government's refixation of ex-factory prices in light of the recent Supreme Court verdict. Without accounting for transportation costs and local taxes, the cost to users of the Ambassador automobile will increase by at least Rs 160, that of the Fiat by Rs 300, and that of the Standard by Rs 600. Recently Government published the following revised ex-factory pricing, including dealers' commission: Ambassador Rs 16,946.



Anand Mahindra's post generated a flood of responses on social media. "In 1972, my father acquired an Ambassador automobile for Rs 18000/- on the road," a person wrote on the post. It is expensive, a different user said. Other individuals also voiced their worries about the declining value of the Indian rupee.
