Shashi Tharoor, who frequently comments on national and international issues through social media, has been vocal about the protests at Jantar Mantar. On Wednesday, he reposted a 2012 post by Amitabh Bachchan in which the actor had written, "What is happening in Delhi is saddening and shocking... Peaceful protests are being met with tear gas and water cannons!!" The post was originally shared during the protests following the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case in Delhi.

Social media users react after old post resurfaces

Following Tharoor's repost, social media users reacted by questioning Bachchan's silence on the current protests. One user commented, "You're so late, kind of coming." Another wrote, "Damn it." A third user said, "All the Bol Bachchans have disappeared under the Modi government."

2012 Nirbhaya protests and current Jantar Mantar demonstrations

On December 16, 2012, widespread protests broke out in Delhi after the gang rape of a 23-year-old student, widely known as the Nirbhaya case. During those demonstrations, Delhi Police used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters.

Amitabh Bachchan has also faced criticism on social media over rising petrol and diesel prices, with users reviving his earlier posts on the issue. In one of his 14-year-old posts, he wrote, "Ramchandra told Sita that such a Kaliyuga will come. You will buy a car in cash, but petrol will come on loan." Users have cited such past remarks while questioning his silence on current issues.
