Amitabh Bachchan still regrets not learning music even at 84 and feels very sad watching people sing beautifully or play an instrument well

Amitabh Bachchan has opened up about a regret that has stayed with him for decades, saying he still feels sad for never learning music even at the age of 84. The megastar made the confession during an upcoming episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati season 18.

The moment came during a light hearted segment of the show, when contestant Kritagya Nayyar, who described himself as a content creator, asked Bachchan to play a game called This or That. Kritagya told Bachchan he wanted to play the game so he could make a reel and gain a few followers, and called Bachchan the biggest content creator in the country.

A question about the past leads to a personal admission

During the game, Kritagya asked Bachchan whether he would prefer to relive a day from his past or experience a day he had never lived but always wished to. Bachchan said his life has had so many events that he could not pick a single day to relive. Bachchan said, "Sir, sach kahen toh hamare jeevan mein itni ghatnayein hui hain ki pata nahi kaunsa din dobara jeena chahenge. Aur doosra hissa hai ki aisa koi din jeena jo ab tak nahi jiya," which translates to him saying that so many things have happened in his life that he does not know which day he would want to relive, and that the second option was about living a day he had never experienced.

This thought led Bachchan to reveal that learning music was one such unfulfilled wish for him.

Bachchan said he feels a deep sense of sadness whenever he sees people playing instruments like the sitar or the harmonium, or listens to singers perform. Bachchan said, "Sangeet humne nahi seekha hai aur uski bahut khwahish thi. Ye jo log saaz bajate hain, sitar hai, peti hai, aur jo gaayak hote hain, unko dekhkar humein bahut dukh hota hai. Jab hum unhe sunte hain toh kehte hain, 'Itna badhiya kaise gaa lete hain?' Ye sab humne kabhi seekha hi nahi," meaning he never learned music despite having a strong desire to, and that watching instrumentalists and singers perform leaves him wondering how they manage to do it so well.

Instruments at home, never learned

Bachchan also revealed that his house is filled with musical instruments that he bought over the years, hoping he would one day sit down and learn to play them. Bachchan said, "Ghar mein, sir, sangeet seekhne ke liye jitne yantra hone chahiye, woh sab ikattha karke rakhe hue hain. Unke upar hum phoolon ki mala chadha dete hain ki ek din aayega jab hum kuch seekhenge," which means he has collected all the instruments needed to learn music at home, and even garlands them with the hope that a day will come when he finally learns.

Despite this hope stretching across decades, Bachchan admitted the skill never came to him.

Eighty four years later, the wish remains unfulfilled

Reflecting on his age, Bachchan said, "Ab 84 varsh ho gaye hain, kuch nahi aaya humein. Toh is baat ka humein bahut dukh hai," meaning that eighty four years have passed and he still has not learned anything, and that this remains a source of great sadness for him.

The candid confession struck a chord with viewers, many of whom pointed out that even someone as accomplished as Bachchan carries regrets from things left undone. The episode is set to air soon as part of Kaun Banega Crorepati season 18, a show Bachchan has hosted for years and often uses as a space to share personal reflections alongside quiz rounds with contestants.
