Vande Bharat seen running through waterlogged railway tracks in viral video from Mumbai.
A video showing a Vande Bharat Express moving through waterlogged railway tracks in Mumbai has gone viral on social media, drawing mixed reactions as heavy monsoon rain continued to affect transport across the city and neighbouring districts.

The video, shared on X on July 4, was reportedly recorded near Kanjurmarg during heavy rainfall. It shows the train travelling steadily through a stretch where rainwater had accumulated over the tracks, sending large sprays of water up on both sides as it moved forward.

One social media user who shared the footage described it as a "stunning video" of the Vande Bharat Express passing through heavily waterlogged tracks near Kanjurmarg amid Mumbai's persistent monsoon.

Heavy rain disrupts rail and road transport

Intermittent heavy rainfall accompanied by gusty winds disrupted normal life in Mumbai and nearby districts on Monday. Long-distance train services to Pune were suspended, suburban rail operations on a section in Raigad were halted, and road traffic slowed because of waterlogging.

The India Meteorological Department forecast more rainfall during the day.

Authorities advised commuters to remain cautious and check the latest train and traffic updates before beginning their journeys in view of the continued heavy rain forecast.

Landslides halt Mumbai-Pune train services

Officials said train services on the Mumbai-Pune route were suspended early Monday after heavy rain triggered landslides in the Karjat-Lonavala Bhor Ghat section.

The Central Railway also suspended suburban train services between Karjat and Khopoli in Raigad district after heavy rain washed away the ballast, the gravel bed supporting the tracks, between Lowjee and Dolavli stations.

Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer Swapnil Nila told PTI that the ballast washout led to the suspension of train services on the section and restoration work was in progress.

Officials said services would resume only after the tracks were declared safe for operations.

The Karjat-Khopoli section forms part of Mumbai's suburban rail network and is used daily by thousands of commuters travelling to the city for work.

Multiple landslides caused by heavy rainfall also forced the suspension of train services on the Karjat-Lonavala ghat section.

Western Railway services delayed

Local train services on the Western Railway network were running 15 to 20 minutes behind schedule because of waterlogging between Vasai Road and Virar stations in neighbouring Palghar district, a Western Railway spokesperson said.

According to sources, railway tracks were submerged at several locations, including the Palghar and Virar-Vasai Road sections, slowing train movement.

Passengers were advised to allow extra travel time while planning their journeys.

Long-distance trains affected

Heavy rainfall also disrupted rail connectivity between Mumbai and Pune. Officials said multiple landslides in the ghat section resulted in several long-distance trains being cancelled, diverted or regulated.
