Amethi’s district administration on Friday has refuted media reports on drone sightings. The administration has said people have mistaken airplane lights as drones.

DM Sanjay Chauhan has said that lights from aircrafts flying on their normal routes have been misinterpreted as drones. He also warned that legal actions will be taken against people spreading these rumours. Chauhan also said that the authorities are also raising public awareness to fight the misinformation.

SP Aparna Rajat Kaushik confirmed that the investigation has proved these rumors to be false. She reiterated Chauhan's warning about spreading misinformation regarding the drones and informed PTI that 10 people have been taken into preventive custody in this case across multiple police stations. Police are compiling an online list of all the drone owners in the district to keep a vigil on their activities, Kaushik added.

Local police stations are holding meetings with community leaders, public representatives, religious figures, and villagers to educate them in this matter and stop the spread of these rumors.

Recently, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued a warning against the illegal use of drones, and said that operating drones without prior permission is banned and that violators could face charges under the Gangster Act or the National Security Act (NSA).
