Rituals of Amalaki Ekadashi

Devotees wake up early in the morning on Amalaki Ekadashi, take a bath, and pray to Lord Vishnu. A day-long fast is observed, which is only broken the next day after a puja. Devotees pray to Lord Vishnu and donate food, clothing, and other necessities to the poor and needy. Lord Vishnu's wife Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, is said to live in the tree in some traditions. The tree is thought to be home to Vishnu's avatar Krishna and his consort Radha. On Amalaki Ekadashi, devotees water the amla tree and then worship it with a puja ritual that includes prayers, flowers, and the lighting of a ghee diya.
