In a media interview, L&T Chairman AM Naik, renowned for his six-decade tenure with the conglomerate, divulged a unique formula that powered his enduring success - reinventing himself every three years.

Throughout his illustrious career, AM Naik, the 81-year-old luminary, found himself consistently evolving in response to the ever-changing landscape of corporate demands. "I would transform myself every three years, adapting to the prevailing circumstances," he revealed, underscoring the pivotal role adaptation played in his enduring success.

Harking back to his college days, Naik shared an anecdote of his professor's skepticism due to his sporadic class attendance. He reminisced, "During my student years, I immersed myself in various activities, and attending classes took a back seat. I remember my professor's jibes, cautioning that a high SSC percentage did not guarantee success in college."

However, the transition from academia to the professional realm marked a significant turning point for Naik. "As I exited those gates, I acknowledged that my days as a student were behind me, and the corporate arena beckoned. I transformed from an irregular attendee to a relentless worker, clocking 15-hour days without a single absence for over two decades."

Naik's unwavering commitment to his craft left a profound impact on his personal life. He shared that his wife often found herself alone at home as he dedicated long hours at L&T's headquarters. Recounting instances of his dedication, he recalled, "Numerous times, I missed the last midnight bus and found myself dozing at my office desk."

He credited his remarkable journey to a mentor, Mr. Baker, who recognized his worth and provided him with a scooter, later securing a car for him. Naik attributed these accomplishments to his persistent drive to enhance his value within the company. "My fervor for my work was unrelenting; I aimed to create a foundation that would contribute to the nation's progress," Naik affirmed, highlighting his dedication to nation-building.
