Ajith's Thunivu to release for Pongal, set to clash with Varisu

Thunivu by Ajith is all set to be released around the Pongal festival in January 2023. Producer, Boney Kapoor has officially released the announcement on his social media.

Fans have been speculating about the release dates and clash between Ajith’s Thunivu and Vijay’s Varisu. Varisu was scheduled as a Pongal film long ago, Thunivu on the other hand, was scheduled as a Deepavali film. However, the shooting of the film couldn't be completed and the makers had to make the hard decision of delaying the release.

All eyes are now on the release dates. There are rumours of both films releasing on the same day. Some rumours say Varisu will arrive a day early.


Ajith and Vijay’s films- Veeram and Jilla - were released on the same day in January 2014. Both movies collected almost the exact figures after the theatrical run.

2022 has been a great year for Tamil cinema. Vikram and Ponniyin Selvan 1 were released in the span of three months and they performed extremely well at the box office. They both grossed around 400 crores within the state.
